Blyth Battery Celebrations 18th & 19th May 2019

The team attended over the weekend 18th / 19th May, and had a great time playing some classic 40’s tunes, and interacting with the public.

War re-enactors from all over the country took part in the event, that included beach battles at noon on Saturday & Sunday, weapons demonstrations, chance to see military vehicles, a Home Front display and some live entertainment.

The Battery was built in 1916 to protect the Northumberland Coast from the German Navy and guard Blyth and its submarine base. The artillery defence station was upgraded for the Second World War, as Britain fought the axis over land, sea and air until victory was secured in 1945.
