Local boxing is alive and well and provided a knockout evening of sporting action and great entertainment at Newbiggin Leisure Centre.
The Koast Radio Sports Team assisted by former World Cruiser Weight Champion Glenn McCrory were ringside to provide full commentary of Newbiggin Home Boxing Show.
An incredible bill of around 11 fights with the main bout of the night the Tyne/Tees/Wear Welterweight Title fight.
The event involved young people boys and girls aged 10 to 28 from local boxing clubs all over the region. Koast Radio Director, Garry Scurfield said “What a great night of sporting action. Boxing is a tremendous sport for kids and fantastic to see the event hosted in a safe and professional manner. We should be very proud of grass roots sport and the commitment shown by coaches and participants alike to make the sport inclusive to all. It’s not just about getting in a boxing ring; there is a huge emphasis on developing personal confidence, respect and health. At Koast Radio we operate in a very similar manner with our volunteers where we focus on opportunities to get involved in the communities we serve and of course giving individuals an opportunity to gain self-confidence.“
Glenn McCrory said “It’s great to be part of the Koast Radio Sports team. The team does an unbelievable job of offering local grass roots community sports clubs and opportunity to demonstrate their hard work and commitment.” “This is where I started my trade, a huge well done to Newbiggin Boxing Club for all their efforts and commitment in giving these kids the opportunity to demonstrate what they are learning”.
Paul Scott, Coach of Newbiggin Boxing Club “we are really proud of our club and how it plays its part within the local community. It's a real pleasure being able to host these events and give our boxers the opportunity to display their skills. It's great to have the support of Koast Radio who always does a fantastic job of providing live commentary. It really adds value to what we aim to achieve as a club"
