Koast Radio 106.6FM were very pleased to be asked to be part of The Newcastle Dog And Cat Shelter "Family Fun Day", which took place on Monday 6th May. We were asked to provide background music and to do public announcements. It was a great day with a fantastic turn-out, despite the fact the heavens opened halfway through and it poured down! As well as Koast Radio 106.6FM, there were dance displays, stalls and a mini dog show.
We have been running a campaign since the beginning of August last year, to try and help the shelter find homes for some of their residents and the campaign was the idea of one of our presenters, "The G-Man" who presents "The Renegade Rock Show" and "That Saturday Show". A large number of our other presenters have been more than willing to help publicise the campaign via their shows, too! We are extremely happy to be able to say that our regular "Pet Of The Week" posts on the Koast Radio 106.6FM Facebook page and the pages dedicated to various shows, have resulted in the successful rehoming of several residents.
We have also been asking for donations from the public of bedding, dog and cat toys, old newspapers, kitten food, cat scratching posts as well as rabbit and guinea pig toys and so on.... because they don`t just have dogs and cats in their care, they also have rabbits, guinea pigs (the occasional ferret) plus some farm animals including goats, sheep, pigs, donkeys, chickens and horses. They are not seeking to rehome the farm animals but they do need things such as animal feed and bedding for them.
To date, we have delivered over a dozen loads of donated items to the shelter and our listeners have been extremely generous, too, with a large number of them taking items directly to the shelter.
If you think you have something they could make use of, or may be able to help find a new home for one of their residents, please contact them at:
The Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter Benton North Farm, Benton Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8EH Tel: 0191 215 0435
On behalf of ourselves and The Newcastle Dog And Cat Shelter, we would like to thank all of our listeners who have been kind enough to help the campaign be such a huge success! More information can be in the "Pet Of The Week" posts.
Layla Rutter, Chief Executive commented:
“Wow! What an amazing response we have had to the Pet of the Week campaign Koast Radio 106.6FM have been running.
The featured animals have received a lot of attention and we have been inundated with enquiries and requests for further information on the featured pets.
The campaign has opened up a whole new audience for us and created a huge opportunity to find more potential homes for our animals. In addition to helping us find new homes, the kind and generous support of listeners has been heart-warming. We have been overwhelmed by the donations of food, bedding and toys we have received which all make life better for the animals in our care until they find loving new homes.
We are extremely grateful to everyone at Koast and their listeners who have been incredibly supportive and shown how kind and generous people can be. We are especially grateful to all those people who have opened up their hearts to one of our animals by offering them a loving new home. Many thanks to you and the team at Koast for everything you have done. We are all very grateful and appreciate all of your support in helping us to make life better for our animals.”
