Koast Radio goes from strength to strength

After being granted our FM license by Ofcom, Koast Radio went live on 106.6fm.

Since then tens of thousands have tuned in and listened to our massive range of shows.

In December 2016 we will be celebrating our first year on 106.6fm.

Big things are planned for Koast Radio over the remainder of the year and into 2017.  We continue our work in association with “Match For Margaret Events” raising money for local charity.  This year money raised will be shared between palliative care and Frankie Sherwood Appeal

Recent changes in Directorship and the formation of a new management structure, have enthused the volunteers at the Ashington based community radio station to grab the opportunity with both hands allowing them to become bigger and better than ever before.

The biggest development being a move of location, Koast Radio have been given a purpose built studio and reception facility in an unused building owned by Bernicia, allowing the station to be more accessible to the community.

Iain Robson, Station Manager said, “Koast Radio works because it is full of people who are passionate about their community. Since coming to Koast over 4 years ago and being appointed as Station Manager December 2014, I have seen everyday people do amazing things for the community we are part off. Being awarded our FM license and working in partnership with Bernicia and Northumbria College is very exciting.

Here at Koast we help local charities raise much needed funds, in particular this year, we raised in excess of £6000 for Wansbeck Palliative Care Unit.  This was achieved via a charity football match and other events, in which many of the Koast presenters and close friends took part which we now know fondly as “Match for Margaret”
