Jess Brings the Castle Down!

Jess Brings the Castle Down!

by Marty

We sent the Koast Media team down to see Jess Glynne storm the Castle and here’s our report from our very own Hannah Waters.

Jess Glynne gathered in thousands to the grounds of Alnwick Castle performing an array of songs in her one and a half hour set. Her songs promoted love and the party atmosphere could be felt throughout the evening. The field soon filled up from 4pm and concert revellers didn’t let the gloomy clouds and rain dampen the mood.

Her support acts included Mullally and Kiko Bun. Mullally was a great warm up act and he performed his new single She Don’t Know Me. His husky voice was perfect to get the crowd warmed up for Jess. He is certainly someone to look out for in the future. Also performing was Kiko Bun, his reggae style music really got the crowd jamming ready for Jess Glynne. Kiko’s mellow tones had an upbeat vibe and just as he was finishing the rain stopped and the stage was set for Jess to perform.

The crowd was ready and Jess stepped out on stage with plaits in her hair and blue sequin trousers and her iconic heeled boots. Opening her set with Right Here, she also performed Rather be, Ain’t got too far to go, Real love. In the backdrop of Alnwick Castle, she dazzled with her powerful voice and performed most songs from her album ‘I cry when I laugh’. The five big screens around the stage ensured everyone could see the stage and the patterns really fitted the songs especially Bad blood and No Rights no wrongs. The psychedelic images were befitting to Jess Glynne who lets her music do all the talking with little crowd interactions.

The stand out song had to be the encore when she performed ‘Take me Home’ and had the chorus of fans singing with her. How many concerts do you go to with the introduction of giant glittery beach balls into the crowd? She really didn’t live up to her calm and collected persona, delivering each song with and commanding attitude. All eyes were on Alnwick castle after Tom Jones’ performance was cut short two years ago, thankfully nothing went wrong apart from the chaotic exit of the carpark. A great night was certainly had by all and Jess Glynne impressed the crowds in the spectacular grounds of Alnwick Castle.

Blyth AFC boss signs FA Vase record breaker

Blyth AFC boss signs FA Vase record breaker

by Marty

Blyth AFC has announced the official signing of FA Vase goal scoring record breaker Andrew ‘Bully’ Bulford to the new season’s squad.

Bulford was the first player to score in every game of the FA Vase run in 2012 including replays, a double legged semi-final and in the final whilst playing for Dunston UTS.

Crowned Man of the Match in the Wembley final scoring both goals in the 2-0 victory against West Auckland Town, joint manager Michael Connor said signing striker ‘Bully’ was a real coup for the club.

“Bully is an out and out goal scorer and has already given Blyth another dimension scoring against Thornaby in his debut match for the club to help with our victory in our first game of the season.

“We had been after him for a while and are delighted he has fitted in so well to a strong squad and he has the potential to score many goals for us for the rest of the season too, helping us bring in those well needed points.

“He, along with the other lads, helps form our vision and determination to get to the top of the league and reach promotion.”

Although in his 13th season in the Northern league, Bulford believes it won’t be unlucky for him having gained promotion twice from division two with his previous clubs Consett AFC and Ryton.

Bulford, from Newcastle, said: “Joining Blyth AFC is an exciting challenge for me and one that I hope I can be a part of another promotion into division one. Coming from a division one team (Ashington AFC) I know a few of the other new signings such as Oliver, McGorrigan and Richardson when we played for Ashington AFC together so Blyth AFC already feels like home, and a place I feel I can add value to.

“The quality we have within the club should make our dreams of promotion realistic and I hope to continue to enjoy my football and score lots of goals.”

Bulford made his club debut on Saturday 5th August in a 5-3 home game victory against Thornaby FC scoring the 4th goal in the second half.

Blyth AFC takes on Hebburn Town away on Saturday 12th August KO 15.00 followed by the second home game of the season against Chester-Le-Street on Wednesday 16th August KO 19.45.

Each Blyth AFC home game is £6 entry on the door with concessions available by emailing info@blythafc.co.uk

Summer Madness at Newbiggin

The Koast Radio Team with the support of local businesses in Newbiggin hosted a Summer Event in the heart of Newbiggin.

On show were some fantastic classic scooters from local scooter clubs, music from local musicians and of course music from the Koast Team.

The event attracted a lot of interest from local people and brought visitors into the town.

Traders reported a bumper trading day and raised an impressive £310 to support local youngster Frankie Sherwood.

Planning has already started on the next event to make it even bigger and better.
